Rumours persist regarding the old tale of a police radar gun causing a jet fighter to automatically lock a missile launch. The latest version has the British Ministry of Defense writing a thankyou letter to the local police for uncovering the cause of the incident. Some people insist that the incident is based on a reality involving archaic fighter technology. However, the obvious question remains - Why would a jet on a routine exercise, during peace time, over a civilian population, be using an automatic lock-and-launch missile system?
